Foi em um dia 13 de julho, no ano de 1985, que o mundo se encantou com um evento de enorme dimensão e importância, o Live Aid. Idealizado e realizado pela dupla de artistas amigos Bob Geldof e Midge Ure, o Live Aid reuniu grandes astros do Rock and Roll em dois concertos transmitidos ao vivo pela televisão, um em Londres (Inglaterra), no Wembley Stadium, e o outro na Filadélfia (Estados Unidos), no John F. Kennedy Stadium. Na mesma hora, alguns artistas apresentaram-se também na Austrália, na Rússia e no Japão. Estima-se que 1,5 bilhão de espectadores, em mais de 100 países, tenham assistido a apresentação ao vivo pela transmissão da TV. A ideia era arrecadar fundos para o combate à fome na África, sobretudo na Etiópia, e o resultado foi mais que o esperado: foram arrecadados cerca de 125 milhões de dólares. O idealizador do show beneficente, Bob Geldof, foi condecorado em 1986 com a ordem de "Cavaleiro do Império Britânico", em reconhecimento aos seus esforços em favor dos famintos africanos.
Mas como sempre acontece, houveram algumas críticas, especialmente sobre a administração dos valores arrecadados por dirigentes pouco confiáveis das nações atingidas pela tragédia da fome.
Nos dois palcos apresentaram-se ícones da música mundial como Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Sting, Phil Collins, Joan Baez, David Bowie, Madonna e muitos outros grandes artistas. Foi no Live Aid que o Queen de Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor e John Deacon fez sua antológica apresentação que acabou virando até filme.
A memorável apresentação e demonstração de humanidade, com artistas se reunindo para tocar gratuitamente apenas com o intuito de ajudar irmãos que morriam de fome na África, teve participação de astros como:

O Live Aid encantou a milhões com a grandeza da atitude humanitária e com a incrível reunião de tantos astros em prol de uma causa justa, confirmando o quão é importante a união de todos em defesa de um mínimo de dignidade a cidadãos de todos os povos do mundo. Somos todos irmãos, filhos de Deus, merecedores de pelo menos o básico para viver em paz. É muita injustiça, com uns poucos com trilhões de riqueza enquanto outros tantos de humanos não têm o que comer, morrendo de fome. Chega de tanta ganância, de tanta desumanidade, de tanta violência, de tanta negligência, de tanta acumulação de riqueza, de tanta desigualdade social!
Toda a gratidão e reconhecimento ao Bob Geldof e ao Midge Ure, bem como a todos os que se apresentaram gratuitamente ou trabalharam para que tão linda atitude se concretizasse!
